Recognition in Malaysia

Medicine is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). The university appears in the Second Schedule of the Medical Act 1971 as The Medical University of Warsaw, with:

  • “Medical Doctor”, recognised since 2 July 2007
  • “Lekarz (MD)”, recognised since 2 July 2007

What this means in practice:

  • Recognition applies to the qualification named above. Before you enrol, we check the exact degree title for your intake against the current MMC list.
  • A recognised degree lets you apply for registration in Malaysia. It is not automatic permission to practise: housemanship and the other MMC registration requirements still apply.
  • You must also meet the MMC minimum entry qualifications for a medical programme. Being accepted by the university does not prove that on its own.

If a medical qualification is not on the list, the graduate must pass the MMC Examination for Provisional Registration (EPR) before registering.

Global Recognition

  • Accredited in Poland by the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA), which is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) until September 2035.
  • Polish medical degrees are automatically recognised across the European Economic Area under EU law.
  • We confirm the university’s World Directory of Medical Schools entry for you if you are considering the US licensing exams.

Programmes

Medicine (MD), English Division

  • 6 years (long-cycle Master’s), taught in English.
  • The Faculty of Medicine has 4,403 students, 5 teaching hospitals and 95 teaching and clinical units.

Entry Requirements

  • Biology and Chemistry at advanced (A-level-equivalent) level, plus Physics or Mathematics. A missing subject can be made up with an extra exam.
  • The online Competency Test: 80 multiple-choice questions in 100 minutes (Biology, Chemistry and Decision Making). UCAT, BMAT, MCAT, GAMSAT or HPAT scores can be used instead.
  • Ranking is 20% school results and 80% test result.
  • English: IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 87 (other certificates accepted).

Teaching Hospitals and Facilities

  • University Clinical Centre, combining the Central Clinical Hospital (Banacha Street), the Paediatric Clinical Hospital and the Infant Jesus Clinical Hospital.
  • Duchess Anna Mazowiecka Hospital, the Clinical Ophthalmology Hospital, the University Dental Center and the University Centre of Mother and Child’s Health.
  • A Centre for Medical Simulation, in use since 2017.

Student Life

  • Warsaw has about 1.9 million people. Average temperatures are −1.5 °C in January and 20 °C in July.
  • Mosques include the Centre of Islamic Culture in Ochota and the Wilanów Mosque.
  • About 100 Malaysians were studying in Poland in 2024/25, mostly in medicine.

Student visa

  • Malaysians need a Polish national (D) visa for studies, applied for in person at the Embassy of Poland in Kuala Lumpur after booking through e-Konsulat.
  • Apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel. The decision normally takes up to 15 days.
  • The checklist includes the admission letter, proof of tuition payment, your legalised school certificate (with the Polish recognition decision for first-year students), accommodation, travel medical insurance and proof of funds.
  • Proof of funds must be a statement from a Polish or EU bank, not a Malaysian bank, unless you use one of the alternatives the embassy accepts.
  • After arrival you apply for a temporary residence permit. Full-time students with a study visa or residence permit may work without a separate work permit.

Notable Alumni

  • Zbigniew Religa Cardiac surgeon who performed Poland’s first successful heart transplant (1985); later Minister of Health source
