Recognition in Malaysia
Medicine is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). The university appears in the Second Schedule of the Medical Act 1971 as Medical University of Lodz, with:
- “Doctor of Medicine”, recognised since 2 July 2007
- “Lekarz”, recognised since 27 September 2018
What this means in practice:
- Recognition applies to the qualification named above. Before you enrol, we check the exact degree title for your intake against the current MMC list.
- A recognised degree lets you apply for registration in Malaysia. It is not automatic permission to practise: housemanship and the other MMC registration requirements still apply.
- You must also meet the MMC minimum entry qualifications for a medical programme. Being accepted by the university does not prove that on its own.
If a medical qualification is not on the list, the graduate must pass the MMC Examination for Provisional Registration (EPR) before registering.
Global Recognition
- Accredited in Poland by the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA), which is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) until September 2035.
- The university states it is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools with an ECFMG sponsor note, so its students can apply to sit the US licensing exams.
- Polish medical degrees are automatically recognised across the European Economic Area under EU law. To practise in Poland itself, graduates pass the LEK exam and complete an internship.
Programmes
Medicine (MD), English Division
- 6 years, taught in English. Diploma: Lekarz (MD).
- Classes start on 1 October, with orientation in the last week of September.
Patients in Polish hospitals speak Polish. Ask us how many hours of Polish the programme includes before the clinical years.
Entry Requirements
- A school-leaving qualification equivalent to A-levels with two sciences from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Grades are converted to points and must meet that year’s threshold.
- A 30-minute online oral entrance exam on MS Teams, covering your motivation and questions in two of the four science subjects. You can sit it at most twice a year.
- An English certificate from the university’s accepted list.
Teaching Hospitals and Facilities
- 3 university-owned teaching hospitals with more than 1,600 beds: Norbert Barlicki Memorial Teaching Hospital No. 1, the Military Medical Academy Memorial Teaching Hospital (Central Veteran Hospital) and the Central Teaching Hospital.
- 34 wards in city hospitals, about 1,200 more beds.
- A medical simulation centre.
Student Life
- Łódź has about 640,000 people. Average temperatures are −1.5 °C in January and 19 °C in July.
- About 100 Malaysians were studying in Poland in 2024/25, mostly in medicine.
Student visa
- Malaysians need a Polish national (D) visa for studies, applied for in person at the Embassy of Poland in Kuala Lumpur after booking through e-Konsulat.
- Apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel. The decision normally takes up to 15 days.
- The checklist includes the admission letter, proof of tuition payment, your legalised school certificate (with the Polish recognition decision for first-year students), accommodation, travel medical insurance and proof of funds.
- Proof of funds must be a statement from a Polish or EU bank, not a Malaysian bank, unless you use one of the alternatives the embassy accepts.
- After arrival you apply for a temporary residence permit. Full-time students with a study visa or residence permit may work without a separate work permit.
