Recognition in Malaysia
Medicine is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). The university appears in the Second Schedule of the Medical Act 1971 as Volgograd State Medical University, with:
- “Doctor of Medicine”, recognised since 8 January 2003
What this means in practice:
- Recognition applies to the qualification named above. Before you enrol, we check the exact degree title for your intake against the current MMC list.
- A recognised degree lets you apply for registration in Malaysia. It is not automatic permission to practise: housemanship and the other MMC registration requirements still apply.
- You must also meet the MMC minimum entry qualifications for a medical programme. Being accepted by the university does not prove that on its own.
If a medical qualification is not on the list, the graduate must pass the MMC Examination for Provisional Registration (EPR) before registering.
Global Recognition
- Institutional and General Medicine accreditation by IAAR, valid 26 January 2024 to 25 January 2029. IAAR is on the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) list of recognised agencies.

Programmes
General Medicine
- 6 years, full-time. Taught in English (the university calls this the “language-intermediary” track) or in Russian.
- For 2026/27 the university set 389 paid places for foreign students in English and 250 in Russian.
- Optional medico-biological preparatory year.
- English-track students can take a paid professional Russian course (108 hours) to prepare for working with patients.
Entry Requirements
- University tests in Chemistry, Biology and Physics, plus a language test in English or Russian depending on your track.
- Malaysian applicants must provide a certificate recognising their foreign education.
Teaching Hospitals and Facilities
- University Clinic No. 1 with 130 surgical, 80 therapeutic and 12 intensive-care beds, plus a family medicine clinic and a dental centre. The university’s own clinics treat about 39,000 patients a year.
- A Center for Electronic Medical Education, opened in 2022, with 37 simulation rooms.
Student Life
- Volgograd has about 1 million people. Average temperatures are −6 °C in January and 25 °C in July, so summers are hot.
- The university has its own dormitories.
Getting There
There is no direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Moscow at the moment. The usual route is one stop via Istanbul, Doha or Abu Dhabi. From Moscow, take a domestic flight to Volgograd.
