Recognition in Malaysia

Medicine is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). The university appears in the Second Schedule of the Medical Act 1971 as Universitas Padjadjaran, with:

  • “Dokter (dr.)”, recognised since 21 February 1975

What this means in practice:

  • Recognition applies to the qualification named above. Before you enrol, we check the exact degree title for your intake against the current MMC list.
  • A recognised degree lets you apply for registration in Malaysia. It is not automatic permission to practise: housemanship and the other MMC registration requirements still apply.
  • You must also meet the MMC minimum entry qualifications for a medical programme. Being accepted by the university does not prove that on its own.
  • For Indonesian medical degrees, the MMC asks for proof that you passed Indonesia’s national competency exam for doctors (UKMPPD) when you apply for registration.

If a medical qualification is not on the list, the graduate must pass the MMC Examination for Provisional Registration (EPR) before registering.

Dentistry: please read this carefully. The university’s dental degree (“Ijazah Kedoktoran Gigi”) is on the old Second Schedule of the Dental Act 1971. However, under the Dental Act 2018, Malaysian citizens who graduate from a university outside Malaysia must pass the Malaysian Dental Council’s Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) before they can register. According to MDC statements reported in 2023, the old list only helps graduates who register before 1 January 2027, so students starting now should plan to sit the PQE. We confirm the current rule with the MDC for your intake.

Pharmacy is recognised by the Pharmacy Board Malaysia (Lembaga Farmasi Malaysia). The Board’s list of recognised pharmacy degrees (updated 20 February 2025) includes:

  • Sarjana Sains Farmasi
  • Sarjana Farmasi (recognised 16 April 2018)

Graduates of a recognised degree still sit the Board’s qualifying examination (PKUMF) and complete provisional registration in Malaysia. Whether the Indonesian pharmacist professional year (Apoteker) is also expected is not stated on the Board’s list, so we confirm this with the Board for your intake.

Global Recognition

  • Bachelor of Medicine: LAM-PTKes “Unggul” (Excellent), valid until 26 January 2028.

Programmes

Medicine (International Undergraduate Programme)

  • Taught bilingually, over the same 10 semesters as the regular programme, with exchange options in the Netherlands and Japan.
  • The medical faculty is at the Jatinangor campus, about 21 km from Bandung.

UKM–UNPAD double degree in Medicine (a Malaysian route)

  • 3 years at UNPAD, then 3 years at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
  • Graduates receive the Doctor of Medicine from UKM and the Sarjana Kedokteran from UNPAD. Running since 2006.
  • For Malaysians: Matriculation, STPM or Asasi with CGPA 3.50, at least B in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics or Physics, MUET Band 4 and an interview. PTPTN loans are available.
  • Fees for 2023/24 were RM300,000 for Malaysians. We confirm the current fee with UKM.

Dentistry and Pharmacy

  • Both offered as International Undergraduate Programmes.

Entry Requirements

  • Graduated from secondary school between 2024 and 2026 (for the 2027 intake, check the updated window).
  • English: TOEFL 500, IELTS 6, Duolingo 95 or equivalent.
  • Transcripts and an interview.

Teaching Hospitals and Facilities

  • RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin, Bandung’s main teaching hospital.

Student Life

  • About 1,175 Malaysian students were studying in Indonesia in 2025, according to Malaysia’s ambassador. The national Malaysian student association, PKPMI (Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Malaysia di Indonesia), has branches in the main university cities. The Bandung branch has been active since 1969.
  • Bandung sits in the highlands, so the weather is cooler than Kuala Lumpur.
  • Halal food and mosques are easy to find.

Getting There

There are few direct flights to the Bandung area. Most students fly from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta and continue by road or train. Check current options when you book.
